Jarrah is a large hardwood species native to the south-west of Western Australia. Its heartwood ranges in colour from rich reds to deep browns, while the sapwood is clearly defined by its pale yellow tone, creating a striking contrast.
The timber has a coarse texture and is generally straight-grained, although it may sometimes display interlocked grain. In certain boards, a distinctive ‘fiddleback’ figure can also be present, adding visual interest and character.
Jarrah is rated as Heartwood Class 2 for above-ground durability, is termite resistant, and has a Janka hardness rating of 8.5.
