QLD Spotted Gum is typically darker in appearance than NSW Spotted Gum. Its heartwood ranges widely in colour, from light tan browns through to deep, rich browns, and can sometimes display a pronounced reddish tinge. Overall, it is considered one of the darkest brown timber species available in Australia. The sapwood is noticeably paler, creating a clear contrast.
The grain is commonly interlocked and often features a distinctive ‘fiddleback’ figure, producing a wavy pattern that enhances its visual character. As with all natural timber, colours may vary depending on the region in which it is grown.
QLD Spotted Gum is rated as Heartwood Class 1 for above-ground durability, is termite resistant, and has a Janka hardness rating of 11.
